Yorkshire TV Tour & Film Locations

22nd - 25th October 2009

Thursday - The tour commences as we travel to Yorkshire with a stop en-route in the vibrant city of York. York is a compact, walled riverside city with the spectacular York Minster at its heart. The city offers many historic attractions or just enjoy Stonegate and Shambles shopping. We continue to our hotel and the floral town of Harrogate in time for evening dinner.

Friday - After breakfast a morning at leisure to explore the delightful Victorian spa town of Harrogate. Worth a visit is the famous Betty’s Tea Room with its ornate facia and delicious cakes. At lunch time we depart for a Bronte themed guided tour of Haworth. We begin our tour in the village with a recital of the Bronte life story told in the church before visiting the charming canal-side village of Kildwick before returning to the hotel to enjoy evening dinner.

Saturday - Breakfast is followed with a journey via the historic city of Ripon to the beautiful olde worlde town of Thirsk. This was home to the legendary vet who wrote under the pseudonym of James Herriot. A visit is included to his surgery, now open as a fascinating Visitor Centre tracing his life. We continue to the delightful village of Goathland. This is the setting of the popular TV series Heartbeat and followers will recognise several locations around the village, not least the pretty station on the restored North York Moors Railway. We return to the hotel in time for evening dinner.

Sunday - We commence our homeward journey, travelling firstly to Holmfirth where much of "Last of The Summer Wine" is filmed. A walking tour of the town is included to reveal many sites familiar to regular viewers. The journey continues to arrive home in the early evening with fond memories of Yorkshire’s film and TV locations.
