Montreux - Swiss Train Spectacular

13th - 19th October 2012

Saturday - An early morning start for our journey to the Port of Dover where we join our ferry for the Port of Calais. We continue the journey with ample comfort stops to our overnight hotel in France in time for evening dinner.

Sunday - After breakfast we continue into Switzerland and on to Montreux with time to explore before evening dinner.

Monday -  A relaxed breakfast and a full day at leisure in Montreux with time to explore. A peaceful and internationally famous area, the Montreux Riviera took off as a tourist resort at the beginning of the XIX century. Two centuries later, the terraced vineyard became part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Our hotel offers direct access onto the long lakeside promenade and many other local attractions to enjoy before evening dinner.

Tuesday -  Enjoy breakfast then a visit to the Bex Salt Mine where a little train, with audio commentary, takes guests into the impressive maze of tunnels. Taking us through the most spectacular and most characteristic of the various mining techniques used since the first gallery was excavated in 1684, up to the present times. In the afternoon we take the cogwheel train to Les Pleiades for spectacular views of Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc. We also include coffee and cake in the cosy mountain restaurant before descending and returning to the hotel for dinner.

Wednesday - Start the day with breakfast then a visit to Chillon Castle. The rocky island on which the castle is built, was both a natural protection and a strategic location to control the passage between northern and southern Europe. On then with a scenic drive into the Swiss Alps, and via Chateau d’Oex, to swish Gstaad for the mid afternoon Golden Pass Panoramic train to Montreux. Surely a spectacular tour highlight before evening dinner!

Thursday - Check out before breakfast then we depart Switzerland with an overnight stop in France where we arrive during mid afternoon allowing time to enjoy the locality before evening dinner.

Friday - Breakfast this morning is followed by our onward journey via the Short Channel crossing before returning home during the early evening after a truly Swiss Spectacular.
