BIGGIN HILL MEMORIAL MUSEUM & POLHILL GARDEN CENTRE

Saturday 31st July 2021

We start at Polhill – a family-owned and run business with over 50 years of gardening experience. There’ll be a great welcome, aspiring to make your experience as relaxing and as enjoyable as possible. The friendly and expert team are always on hand to give assistance whenever you need it!

Also, on-site are a number of retail partners offering everything from the finest of seafood caught locally at the Kent coast to beautiful hand-painted children’s furniture and everything in between! There’ll be time for lunch of your choice and the Bistro is the perfect environment to enjoy a freshly prepared meal showcasing a unique menu to that of a restaurant.

After lunch, we visit Biggin Hill Memorial Museum which tells the story of RAF Biggin Hill through the personal experiences of those who served there, and the community who supported them. The museum journey begins over 100 years ago when RAF Biggin Hill was just farmland. Its high altitude and strategically important location between London and continental Europe, destined it to become the most important airfield of the Battle of Britain, laying the foundation for the European landscape as we know it today. One of Britain’s oldest aerodromes, RAF Biggin Hill is still internationally recognised as Sir Winston Churchill’s ‘strongest link’.

During your visit, you can freely explore the main chapel, gardens, café and shop. You will have access to the exhibition spaces, as well as the discovery tablet, designed to enrich your experience through additional storytelling and special films and photographs. The Nightingale Cafe offers refreshments before heading home. We remember the life and work, courage and sacrifice of the men and women who served there, and the community who lived nearby.
