Ales, Haunted Tales of Lancashire & Taste of the Dales

A 4-night, 5-day tour – Saturday 17th to Wednesday 21st September 2022

Ribble Valley Ghost Tour & Ale • Canal Cruise • ‘Pendle Witches’ Country • Samlesbury Hall • Brewery Tour

The stunning countryside and picturesque villages of the Ribble Valley are home to some mysterious residents and this tour explores the haunting and ghostly goings-on in this area of Lancashire. We have enhanced this tour to include lunch on one day.

Saturday: With ample comfort stops, we travel Cheshire with a lunch stop at Staffordshire’s historic County Town, Stafford. With its castle, and the Ancient High House, the largest timber framed town house in England, it makes for an interesting visit. Continuing to our hotel we arrive with time to enjoy before evening dinner is served.

Sunday: Enjoy breakfast before we depart for a full day officially guided tour of the Ribble Valley to include stops at interesting inns. Hear stories of textile rioting and ghostly sightings in Clitheroe and unsolved murders in Bashall Eaves. See the law courts upstairs in the famous 1693 Hark to Bounty Inn before an included lunch at the Calf’s Head, Worston. On then to visit the Sun Inn at Chipping; Lancashire’s most haunted public house, before stopping in Whalley en-route back to the hotel. Evening dinner ends the days adventure!

Monday: A good breakfast before we head north for a visit to Skipton and a cruise on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. With a humorous and interesting commentary, the history of this important thoroughfare is brought to life. After free time in the town, we continue into the Yorkshire Dales for a stop at Kettlewell – the film location of ‘Calendar Girls’ then Grassington, one of Yorkshire’s prettiest villages and the setting for the surgery in TV’s latest ‘All Creatures Great & Small’. Enjoy numerous tea rooms and quaint shops before we return to our hotel for evening dinner.

Tuesday: Breakfast then today’s excursion explores ‘Pendle Witches’ country with an official and local guide. Learn about the local women who were branded as witches and put-on trial in the 15th century. Afterwards, we visit Samlesbury Hall, a beautiful half-timbered medieval house with a turbulent and dramatic history and now one of the most haunted locations in Britain. Later, our final evening dinner is served at our hotel.

Wednesday: With ample comfort stops, we travel to the National Brewery Centre. There’s time for refreshments before the guided tour around the historic museum with one of the expert guides. Together we will celebrate the history, art and fun of brewing through an informative and interactive experience culminating in a beer tasting session in the elegant Brewery Tap bar where you will get to sample some of the award-winning ales brewed on site. We continue our journey home to arrive in the local area during late afternoon after all the thrills and excitement that this tour offers.
