RHS Bridgewater • City of Chester • Ness Botanical Gardens • River Explorer Cruise • Beatles Museum
With so much to see and do in the North West of England, we have combined a number of well known favourites including lively Liverpool and Chester, with less known excursions and the brand new RHS Garden Bridgewater.
Thursday: Travel to our hotel in Cheshire with a lunch stop at Staffordshire’s historic County Town, Stafford. With its castle, and the Ancient High House, the largest timber framed town house in England, it makes for an interesting visit. On arrival at our hotel, relax before evening dinner is served.
Friday: Breakfast then a short hop to Wigan Pier to enjoy a friendly and informative 2-hour barge cruise. Guests will enjoy the alternative view of the geography, wildlife and heritage of the Industrial Revolution and environs of Wigan, Leigh and the Douglas Valley. Later, the highlight of the tour for many, the brand new and spectacular 154-acre RHS Garden Bridgewater. One of the largest gardening projects in Europe, this is the Royal Horticultural Societies fifth garden and has transformed the historic grounds of Worsley New Hall in Salford. Evening dinner concludes an interesting day.
Saturday: This morning after breakfast we visit charming Chester to meet the Town Crier. Leisure time here includes time to explore the pretty medieval streets and city walls. This afternoons visit is to Ness Botanical Gardens. a unique and fascinating garden experience whatever your knowledge and interests. The Wildflower Meadows are in full swing and the Herbaceous Borders are filled with mixtures of Geranium, Astrantia and Eechinops. The south facing terraces reveal lots of interest from the southern hemisphere plants that live there. The Mediterranean Banks are simply stunning. We return to our hotel in time for evening dinner.
Sunday: A hearty breakfast then to Liverpool – today’s destination for leisure time including a River Explorer cruise on the Mersey and a visit to the Beatle’s Story Museum. Be transported on an incredible immersive journey as we tell the story of how four young lads from Liverpool were propelled to the dizzy heights of fame and fortune from their humble childhood beginnings. Replicas of the Casbah, Mathew Street, Abbey Road Studios and The Cavern authentically capture the early ’60s, allowing you to personally experience the very places that helped make The Beatles the greatest band in the world. Back to the hotel later for evening dinner.
Monday: We bid farewell to our hosts after breakfast; our homeward journey includes an extended lunch stop at Coventry with a chance to visit the Coventry Transport Museum which houses the largest publicly owned collection of British vehicles on the planet and tells the story of a city which changed the world. Later, the tour ends in the local area after a truly rewarding experience.
