A wintertime ShortBreak with a unique blend of attractions including festive Norwich, a great chance for sightseeing and Christmas shopping in the medieval city, the cathedral city of St Albans and Europe’s number one Christmas Spectacular.
SATURDAY: We head to east Anglia with ample comfort stops enroute to Bury St Edmunds to enjoy its spectacular Christmas Fayre. The award winning Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre is now in its 20th year and gets bigger and better every time. With over 300 stalls situated all around the historic Georgian town centre, it has the perfect mix of old and new. The historic centre of Bury St Edmunds will, once again, be transformed into the wonderful Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre with colourful stalls selling local produce and crafts as well as traders from around the UK and mainland Europe. The Christmas Fayre has something for everyone and includes a cookery theatre and food area in the Cathedral grounds, entertainment and fun fair on Angel Hill. The Angel Hill area of Bury St Edmunds, with its magnificent cathedral, medieval Abbey Gate and links with Charles Dickens, is the ideal setting for a traditional Christmas Fayre. An added attraction is the town’s nearby cosmopolitan shopping centre with its great mix of famous name stores and independent shops, cafés and restaurants. We arrive at our hotel to relax before evening dinner is served.
SUNDAY: Breakfast then time at leisure in the city of Norwich before departing for Thursford in time for lunch of your choice before the matinee performance of the Thursford Spectacular. Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic as well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb shopping, lively eateries and a heritage that is a delight to explore. It was also England’s first UNESCO City of Literature. During mid-morning, we depart for Thursford. Set in the magical surroundings of mechanical organs and fairground carousels, with a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians – many of whom are West End performers, the 3-hour performance delivers an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. It’s a fast-moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year-round favourites, with famous and much-loved chart toppers being sung alongside traditional carols. After the show hot chocolate is served on board as we return to our hotel for evening dinner ending a spectacular day.
MONDAY: After breakfast, our homeward journey includes an extended lunch stop at St Albans packed with places to discover, explore, experience and enjoy. The unique buildings and historic streets have remained through the centuries, and are still a vital part of city life. We arrive in the local area during the late afternoon.
