MONDAY: We head to east Anglia with ample comfort stops enroute to the city of Norwich. Here, you’re invited stay on board for a 1 hour official guided panoramic city tour or enjoy an afternoon at leisure then free time. Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic, one complementing the other. Like any great city its centre is easy to walk around and has a river at its heart. As well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene, superb independent as well as High Street shopping, lively restaurants, bars and nightlife and a heritage that is a delight to explore. It was also England’s first UNESCO City of Literature – this is a city of stories! We arrive at our hotel to relax before evening dinner is served.
TUESDAY: Enjoy breakfast then we visit Holt which is one of the finest independent retail centres in East Anglia. The town centre is beautifully compact and contains some fine Georgian buildings. A disastrous fire in 1708 wiped away all the wooden mediaeval market stalls and shops off the Market Place which remain to this day at strange angles occupying their original footprint. Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker …. Yes! they’re all here! Spend time discovering all the yards and alleyways that lead off the vibrant Market Place and High Street for they house a surprising number of speciality shops. Holt is a cultural town too with antiques, books and art galleries. We depart for Thursford with time to explore the venue and enjoy lunch of your choice. Set in the magical surroundings of mechanical organs and fairground carousels, with a cast of 130 professional singers, dancers and musicians – many of whom are West End performers, the 3-hour performance delivers an extravaganza of non-stop singing, dancing, music, humour and variety. It’s a fast-moving celebration of the festive season featuring an eclectic mix of both seasonal and year-round favourites, with famous and much-loved chart toppers being sung alongside traditional carols. After the show hot chocolate is served on board as we return to our hotel for evening dinner
WEDNESDAY: After breakfast, our homeward journey includes an extended lunch stop at St Albans and a traditional Christmas Market. The market includes arts and crafts by local artists and designers including wooden decorations, glass baubles and art prints to local craft ale, cheese, chilli and Belgian chocolate. It is the perfect place to do some extra Christmas shopping and pick up more Christmas gifts for loved ones. There is plenty of seasonal food and drink to indulge in too! We arrive in the local area during the late afternoon. This tour was sold out in record time for 2019 so please make sure you book early for the 2020 Christmas Spectacular.
