RAF Cosford • Severn Valley Railway • Shrewsbury • Archers Tour • River Severn Cruise
Based in a unique Georgian canal town in the heart of the Severn Valley, our itinerary features a transport related theme exploring some fascinating attractions of this beautiful region

SATURDAY: With a rich, vibrant history and a beautiful waterside setting, there is plenty to discover at our lunch stop at Tewkesbury. Take in the stunning scenery by taking a stroll beside the River Severn then head to Tewkesbury Abbey; an imposing feature of the town’s landscape for nearly 900 years. You can also explore the town’s Heritage Centre before we visit the city of Worcester. By the River Severn, medieval Worcester Cathedral houses royal tombs, a crypt and cloisters. At the Commandery, a museum traces the building’s evolution from the Middle Ages through England’s Civil War to the 1950s. The timber-framed Tudor House Museum focuses on life in Tudor and 17th-century Worcester, with displays on traditional brewing and weaving. We head to the hotel in Stourport-on-Severn and enjoy tea and cake on arrival and later, evening dinner concludes an interesting day.

SUNDAY: After breakfast, we visit Kidderminster for a scenic journey on the Severn Valley Railway. Meander through the Shropshire countryside to the market town of Bridgnorth. In reality, it’s two towns: The High Town and the Low Town. Now connected by the steepest inland funicular railway in Britain. The Low Town was once a thriving port along the banks of the River Severn, while the High Town held the castle. Charles I, declared the view to be “the finest in all my kingdom”. Re-joining the coach, we continue to the RAF Museum, Cosford. Home to over 70 aircraft of international importance and adjacent to an active airfield, this enthralling museum is not just for aviation enthusiasts. A guided tour to brings the exhibitions to life. We return to our hotel in time for evening dinner.

MONDAY: Breakfast, then a visit to Shrewsbury. This pretty town with numerous black and white buildings and cobbled streets, was the first home of Charles Darwin. We include a relaxing cruise sailing around the picturesque River Severn Loop from Victoria Quay. After, we continue to join an official Archers guided tour including The Old Bull Inn and Hanbury Church where  the Archer’s weddings have been filmed. All this before returning to the hotel for to relax or enjoy the leisure facilities or relax before evening dinner.

TUESDAY: A hearty breakfast and farewell to our hosts then the homeward journey with a stop at the Jinny Ring Craft Centre. The Jinney Ring was the brainchild and creation of Jenny and Richard Greatwood who bought “Old House Farm” and gradually transformed it into a beautiful countryside attraction. It has won accolades for remaining a true craft centre which provides a home for crafts people who make and sell their own work. Our final visit is to the picturesque Cotswold village of Bourton on the Water for an extended lunch stop the final leg of our adventure to arrive home during late afternoon.
